What speakers/cabs do you like with MK50II

Post by bmenary » Fri Jun 14, 2013 6:09 am

HI all- God, I love my MK50II... I have a Cornford 4X12 front loaded factory V30's- It's about the best sounding cab I have owned- Sounds great with about any amp but I am curious what other people like speaker wise with their MK50 or MK50II- Anyone try the latest and greatest scumbaks? Look forward to hearing your experience- Barry Menary- Wilmette, IL USA

Out of all my cabs. For club gigging I like my Cornford 1X12 - V30 - with open back the best. LIght, loud, and full sounding. I play a MK50H. I also have a 1972 Marshall 4X12 B cab with V30's/G12H mixed, and a Cornford 2X12 wth V30's. Love my MK50H ! I also have a Weber Silver bell speaker laying around, may try that soon in the 1X12.

I haven't gigged my MK50 yet. With my RK100 I like my semi open backed Cornford 2x12 with V30's and my sealed Trace Elliot Projector 3x12 with Classic Lead 80's in. Both sound fantastic.

Do you guys prefer the Mk50II with 6L6's or with EL34s? I wonder what my MK50 would sound like with EL34s....but it has not adjustable bias resistor.

I have mine powering a Marshall 1960TV with Greenback celestions. Works great from clean to classic rock rhythm and singing leads up to about 80s thrash. I prefer the Cornford 2x12 and 4x12 with V30s for heavier stuff. I have a certain hot rodded Marshall head which was eq'd for V30s, which can do a nice chime with the greenbacks, but for distortion really is much better paired up with the V30 loaded cab. In my experience the MK50HII is very versatile.

Well, following my last post I just had to swap the cabs round. There is a ton of massive thunderous bottom end available through the Cornford 4x12 \m/  I'm keeping it like this now and enjoy blending two heads.

Try 2 x Alnico Gold on top, and 2 x V30's on the bottom of your 412 cabinet.

I have an Eminence Wizard in my Carrera, which I also use as a 1x12 extension cab for my MK50. Sounds superb!
