anyone using a Tubescreamer to push an RK or MK?

Post by s&m freddy » Sat Sep 14, 2013 10:04 am

I saw that Tremonti records with a Tubescreamer in front of his RK...with the amp gain at about 2 o'clock. I have always just relied on amp gain but am going to experiment with this setup as his sound using his Cornford is immense!

I doubt it needs any distortion....but a bit of push in the input gain. I guess the pedal clipping smooths out the sound a bit and makes it more forgiving. Also TD's have a big mid range tone.

Anyone trying this...or any words of wisdom with using TD or clone in front of an already driven Cornford?

Is not just about adding more Gain with a TS... Most TS's are rich in Mids and they kinda thicken up your tone too
Still toying with:
PRS Soapbar ll, Les Paul Studio, Yamaha SG2000s, Gibson 335, 1973 Strat
into a Cornford Roadhouse 30 Combo (+ ext 1x12 V30)

Yep....I think a lot of people are disappointed with TS circuits as the try and boost clean amps with them....but they seem to work best to sprinkle fairy dust on an already driven tube amp.

I'll report back on my findings next week after gigging with one. I can't really try it out at home :-)

Well I am impressed! The sound with the TS808 clone is superb for heavy/80's rock. I set the pedal with no gain...Middle tone and high level. I knocked the amp gain back a notch or two.

The sound is more forgiving but no fizz...rich and meaty...pinched harmonics and bags of sustain. This is perfect for me :-)

It's a TSC from eBay. UK made, superb quality and ridiculously cheap....£31 delivered. He does 808 and TS9 versions. I have the 808.

Hi,

I still own the original TS808 and a later TS9 from Ibanez, but best sounding TS is Maxon's OD808.
It does not have the extrem mid honk and works very well for rock and metal.
Give it a try...

Cheers Kell. I am loving the TSC. My bandmate has the Maxon in front of his JCM800 and it sounds great too...
