Dialling in the MK50H II

Post by Nudge68 » Sun Sep 28, 2014 10:39 am

I saw a u toob of Ainsley Lister playing through a black face MK50.

He was getting that mid range bark like Guthrie. I just cannot get close to those tones. Even setting the Mid at max, with Bass and Treble noon-ish, back off the gain .... Nope.

I've got stock JJ 6L6, was thinking of dropping in Harma EL34s.

Any thoughts, comments?

Cheers,

Matt.

So, let me get this straight...

... you're having trouble dialling-in an MK50H II, by looking at a video of an MK50 blackface, which is actually a Hellcat?!

One thing I have learned playing the Cornford MK50h II is that its ultra transparent, meaning that every guitar will sound different , and not subtly so.
It will maintain that clarity (or honesty) through rather surprising amounts of gain.
The pickups are an obvious component to the sound you will achieve .. and it plays a huge role, but all in all I will say that you need to listen to how the guitar sounds accousticly - that will be the integral tone thru the Cornford MK50. Oh - and dont forget about the speakers! Makes a huge difference in terms of what you are getting. The V30 does have a spiky mid hump, but it doesnt have the bark of a good greenback.

...not to mention Jan's recording and production chain: mic, preamp, eq, compression, etc, etc. ..
