Jet CIty Earhart

Post by Fenderoid » Sat Feb 04, 2012 10:26 am

Jet City announced a new handwired 2 channel amp at Namm.Apparently the amp is manufactured in uk and many guys have commented that the gut shots are very similar to those of a MK 50 II.Seems quite weird...

"Doug" from Jet City said on the HC forum "I'm working on what I can say about the designer, still. But I can tell you, I didn't 'copy' anyone's design - it's 100% legit." - so it could be a licenced version of the MK50II. (similar setup to their Soldano designed amps I suppose?)

Looks like the same amp. I met a guy at one of my gigs who engaged me in conversation about my Roadhouse. Without giving away too much detail the guy definitely knew what he was talking about and told me that he'd heard that Cornford was basically no more.

That would be great timing, now that they finally did some site updating.Seriously this can't mean anything good for Cornford.

I know Cornford was waiting on parts for several months. The last time it was a year and a half waiting on CTS pots. They use special values. I always thought Martin and Paul were close friends. Martin is the designer. I find it hard to believe JCA would have done this without consent. Cornford has had many struggles. Martin builds one killer amp. I would be in line for a 100 watter. Martin deserves to make a living. Maybe Paul gave him the go ahead. I hope Paul is ok as he was struggling with Cancer about a year or more ago. I doubt Martin would have done wrong to Paul. Been through too much together. After all the Cornford name is Paul's.

Its pretty obvious the amp is designed by Martin Kidd, based on or the same as an MK50 and no doubt made by Straight Edge Engineering who are the company that built/build Cornford amps.

Most dealers will tell you Cornford are no more and if you've got problems talk to the guys who make them (Straight Edge). Two prominent UK dealers told me this when I was trying to get some spares.
