MK 50H II vs. Boogie mark V - isolated Aftershock

Post by donnyboiler » Wed Jul 06, 2016 2:50 pm

I've done another. I've attempted to remove all unwanted variables this time - both amps are straight down the middle with no backing and I've triple checked my mic position is the same as usual; allowing for minute variation again I suppose.

It's worth pointing out that the MESA uses MESA branded V30s and a much harder/thicker grille cloth, which accounts for some of the differences I believe.

Amps are the same way round in this clip and there is no post-EQ. It's interesting how the removal of the backing track shows them in a different light, I think. This time you can see the amps are at least objectively the same volume as the waveforms are the same size.

Rather than get hung up on EQ differences, please treat this as a test of two completely different rigs on two days, each set up to simply sound their best. I literally can't get them any more similar without detracting from the guts of one or the other.

Haha, awesome ! The first must be the Cornford....

A request: for shits and giggles, now record that again but each with the other cab and the same amp-settings you used for this second clip. I'm very interested to hear what the actual effect of the cabs is (or maybe even the grillcloth as you pointed out.

Btw: are you using a PAF-ish pickup ?

Ah, sorry man, I sold my Cornford a couple of months ago so I can't do that :(

Pickup is a Suhr SSH+ which is like a clearer JB.
