What's your favourite rig?

Post by d1dsj » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:59 pm

It's been quite a while since I've gigged due to various band member circumstances but hopefully we will back up and running soon. So I've been thinking about what gear I'm going use and the only certain thing in my rig is my old MK50h. I'm lucky enough to have a couple of decent guitars and a few nice cabs which can all do the job.... Only the MK50 is sure of getting out the house. Tell me about your gigging rig combinations, guitars, effects, amps and cabs.

I don't play-out, so unfortunately I don't get to experience my Cornford live :(

But at least all my gear is together in my home studio, so I can mix and match to my heart's content :)

I think if I were to gig, I would take the MK50H, get a Cornford 2x12 (I only have a 4x12), my Analogman Bi-Clone Chorus, a delay and reverb pedal (I don't currently have those, as I have rack geat at home) and for guitars, use my PRS Artist II, Royal Electra and Rocketfire Strat.

Great rig, I have a 2 x 12 but as I have a van prefer to use a 4 x 12 as they pretty much have the same footprint anyway. I love my old Orange 4 x 12 with an X pattern of G65's ( I bought these off Aynsley Lister) and G12H30 anniversaries. I retolexed it in Marshall white Levant and did my MK50 to match so it looks as good as it sounds  Very cool guitars too Gadget, that would be a real classy rig.

I gigged tonight with my Suhr Moderns, Cornford MK 50H II, Cornford 2x12" with V30s, and my G System for FX. After years of searching, I finally have the sound in my head. My ideal sound is somewhere between VH II and Balance, but with the fluid leads of early Petrucci or Rust in Peace era Marty Friedman. With this rig I have all of that and more. Beautiful cleans, crushing high gain when detuned, perfect mid gain dynamics - Andy Summers chime, SRV bite or AC/DC crunch, all at the flick of a pickup switch or a change in picking style.

I've been through all the Soldanos, Bogners, EVHs, and Marshalls in the world, and I still love all those amps. But the MK is the cornerstone of my rig and I can't think of a single way to improve it. Simple, great design and uncluttered tone. One great circuit is all you need.

Cornford MK50H are my main amps for almost one year. When I bought my first one, some of my friends told me "it's modern amp sounding, you won't keep it more than a month". Well, I've sold all my other amps (Soldano Hot Rod, Marshalls and a Naylor), bought other ones, a Roadhouse and a Hellcat : just crazy about Cornford. But within a year of playing and gigging, the MK50 becomes the one I need.

Well. MK50 is awesome, it gives all what I'm looking for, from a Marshall... but that Marshall ain't able to give. I use it for every gig or rehearsal, and soon for studio. I tried a lot of cab, Cornford 1x12 and 2x12, Orange 2x12 and 4x12, old JCM800 4x12, but I actually prefer a Splawn 2x12 loaded with old original g12-65. They sounds more vintage, less modern and smooth than V30, giving a more marshallish sound. The Splawn is just half the way between Orange and Marshall 2x12 cabs, a 4x12 tone in a small cabinet.

I'm not using a lot fx pedals : Dunlop Cry Baby, Fulltone Deja Vibe, MXR Phase 90, Nova Delay TC Electronics, and an Ibanez TS9 which is never turned on : the normal and overdrive gains give me more than I need. Guitars are Music Man Axis Sport (axis with vintage trem and swamp ash body) and sometimes, an Orville LP or SG.

Ive had my Mk50II since 08' and it's still my main go to. Live I send 4 channels to FOH. Cornford is left channel @10 o'clock, Limelight Plexi is right channel @ 2 o'clock, and and Axe Fx Ultra is run direct hard left and right. Sounds absolutely mammoth.

My favourite is the RK100 with a Trace Elliot 3x12 (fitted with stock Celestion Lead 80's). TC Electronics Flashback delay and Hall of Fame reverb in the loop...and a Nobels Pre-1 also in the loop for solo boost, Cry Baby and a Homebrew Detox (for cleaning up) out front. Favourite guitars at the moment are my '99 Les Paul Standard, Explorer Traditional Pro and my Gordon Smith Graduate 60. Just lovely :-)

Some great set ups here guys which doesn't surprise me.... If you have a Cornford you have tone. For my next gig I'm going with my MK50 into my old Orange 4 x 12 loaded with with 2 old G65's and 2 newer G12 H30 anni's. Effects will be Teese Wizard WH, Polytune, MXR Phase 45 and Timmy into the front with a RetroSonic Analog delay and CAE line driver into the loop, all powered with a Volto. Guitars will probably be '95 LP STD and either G&L Legacy or Tyler Classic BW.

I can't wait to play again as we've only done 3 gigs through the year and this will be the first paid gig of the year! I'm also playing bass in a newly formed blues trio so I'll be supporting myself.

Keep the replies coming in and get some photos up if you can.
